Pidgin 3.0 (2.96) instant messaging client’s second alpha release has been presented. The release is marked as not yet ready for everyday use. Builds have been prepared in Flatpak format and placed in the beta repository on Flathub.

The interface of Pidgin 3 combines the contact list and chat in one window. The console client Finch will no longer be supplied (it's possible that it may be returned in the future). Currently, the implementation of protocols IRCv3, XMPP, SIP, Demo, Bonjour, and Zulip is being developed. The Pidgin 3 branch is not compatible with Pidgin 2 and previously created plugins but can be installed alongside existing Pidgin 2 builds.

- In the implementation of the protocol for
the Zulip messaging platform, the ability to send messages directly to users and groups has been included. - The ability to log in via QR code scanning has been added.
