After nine months of development, the release of the open-source video player MPV 0.41 has been formed, which branched off from the MPlayer2 project codebase in 2013. MPV focuses on developing new features without worrying about maintaining compatibility with MPlayer. The MPV code is distributed under the LGPLv2.1+ license, with some parts remaining under GPLv2, but the transition to LGPL is almost complete, and the remaining GPL code can be disabled using the "--enable-lgpl" option.

- A backend for clipboard functionality on X11 systems has been added.
- Support for light sensors has been implemented for Linux.
- Handlers have been integrated to register mpv as a multimedia content player on the Windows platform.
- The minimum supported versions cited are FFmpeg 6.1 and libplacebo 6.338.2.
