Linus Torvalds has changed the support status of bcachefs in the Linux kernel to «external maintenance» (Externally maintained). The note on the change states that the decision was made after lengthy discussions, both public and private. Essentially, the new status implies the cessation of acceptance of changes for Bcachefs, while keeping this filesystem in a frozen state within the main body of the kernel. Until Kent Overstreet demonstrates the ability to interact correctly with other kernel developers and adheres to established development rules, further development of Bcachefs will take place outside the kernel codebase.
