The Document Foundation, which oversees the development of the LibreOffice office suite, has published an open letter criticizing the Euro-Office project and its promotion methods. The main concern is that Euro-Office defaults to the OOXML format, which is controlled by Microsoft. According to The Document Foundation, using the proprietary OOXML format by default instead of the open standard OpenDocument contradicts the stated goal of establishing European digital sovereignty, as Euro-Office reinforces dependence on a single American manufacturer, which does not help users gain full control over their content.<\/p>\n
Criticism is also directed at the claims that Euro-Office is the first open office suite developed in Europe. The first European open office suites are OpenOffice.org and LibreOffice, which are based on the source code of StarOffice developed by the German company Star Division. Euro-Office, on the other hand, was created in response to the rising popularity of the ideas of digital sovereignty, stemming from the rebranding of an external codebase.<\/p>\n
