Open-source database PostgreSQL recognized as the Database of the Year by the international portal DB-Engines. It showed the best growth dynamics in popularity and maintained its leadership among more than 400 examined systems. PostgreSQL topped the ranking for the fifth time — it had previously been the leader in growth dynamics in 2017, 2018, 2020, and 2023.

</noindex></noindex>

DB-Engines measures the popularity of databases by analyzing the number of mentions on websites, search frequency in Google Trends, frequency of technical discussions about the systems on IT sites, as well as the number of job postings and social media posts mentioning databases.

</noindex>

As of the end of 2024, PostgreSQL retained its position in the absolute world ranking of popularity, remaining in 4th place behind Oracle, MySQL, and Microsoft SQL Server. In Russia, however, the demand for PostgreSQL is only growing. According to Google Trends analytics for 2024, the popularity of PostgreSQL is 97% higher than Oracle (+42% YoY), 118% higher than MySQL (+57% YoY), and 420% higher than MS SQL Server (+30% YoY).

Russian developers, primarily the company Postgres Professional, make a significant contribution to the development of PostgreSQL, consistently ranking 2nd to 4th in the system's contributor ranking, surpassing contributions from IT giants like Amazon, Google, Apple, and others. Every year, the company submits over 100 code improvements to PostgreSQL, and its employees have received numerous individual awards from the community. For their work on the latest version PostgreSQL 17, the community expressed gratitude to 39 developers from the Postgres Pro team.
