Release of xine-lib 1.2.12 has been announced, a cross-platform library for playing video and audio files, along with a set of related plugins. The library can be used in various media players, including xine-ui, gxine, and kaffeine.
Xine supports multi-threaded operation, handles a wide range of popular and lesser-known formats and codecs, and can process both local content and multimedia streams transmitted over the network. Its modular architecture allows for easy extensibility through plugins. There are five main types of plugins: input plugins for data reception (FS, DVD, CD, HTTP, etc.), output plugins (XVideo, OpenGL, SDL, Framebuffer, ASCII, OSS, ALSA, etc.), demuxers for unpacking media containers, plugins for decoding video and audio data, and effect plugins (echo suppression, equalizer, etc.).
Among the key innovations introduced in the new release:
