AI's and data centers' voraciousness has forced US energy companies to reassess their development plans for the coming years

US energy companies forecast an increase in electricity demand driven by the explosive growth of data center markets and generative AI. According to Datacenter Dynamics, many energy providers in the country are currently revising capital expenditures in light of increasing demand from data centers. Analysts from Reuters reported that nine out of ten US energy suppliers link the growth of their customer base and electricity demand to the data center industry, whereas last year only two of them considered the potential growth of data centers in their forecasts. According to Newton Investment Management, the industry's growth is expected to be faster than in previous decades. Furthermore, the rising demand for energy raises concerns that generating capacity may simply not keep up. Moreover, some experts believe that energy production is lagging behind the growth of data centers altogether.
