Linux-distributionen MagOS fylder 10 år.

For 10 years now, on May 11, 2009, Mikhail Zaripov (MikhailZ) announced the first modular assembly based on Mandriva repositories, which became the first release. MagOS. MagOS is a pre-configured Linux distribution designed for Russian-speaking users, combining a modular architecture (like Slax) with donor distribution repositories. The first donor was the Mandriva project, and now the Rosa repositories (fresh and red) are used. The 'modularity' makes MagOS nearly indestructible and well-suited for experimentation, as you can always revert to the initial or saved state. The donor repositories make it versatile, as everything available in Rosa is accessible.

MagOS supports booting from Flash and saves the results to a directory or file. For this reason, many consider MagOS a 'flash' distribution, but that is not the case, as it is not limited to Flash and can boot from disks, img, iso, vdi, qcow2, vmdk, or over the network. This is managed by the tool developed by the MagOS team— UIRD, an initial RAM disk for booting Linux with a 'layered' root filesystem (aufs, overlayfs). The letter 'U' in the abbreviation stands for 'unified,' meaning UIRD is not tied to MagOS and can be used for any similar projects.

Unlike other well-known modular distributions, MagOS has an update system; it is rebuilt monthly with new packages from the Rosa repositories and changes made by the MagOS team, after which the kernel and UIRD modules are automatically delivered to users. This means two builds are released every month (32-bit - red and 64-bit - fresh). Specifically for the 10th anniversary, updates have been made. siden og et forum projekt.
