ExtremeSwitching X465-switch. Universel gigabit og multi-gigabit

Extreme Networks' switch portfolio has been expanded with the ExtremeSwitching X465 family, which features six models with copper ports (an optical release is expected soon). Essentially, the ExtremeSwitching X465 represents the third generation and logical continuation of the Summit X460 and Summit X460G2 switches. They are considered 'universal' in that they can be installed at any level of the network, from access to core or distribution. We have previously written about ‘RoE++’, ‘Insight architecture’, ‘Extreme Extended Edge/VPEX’, in fact, X465 are the first switches that support all these technologies simultaneously.

The lineup consists of four gigabit and two multi-gigabit switches, all models support stacking. Only the multi-gigabit models support ‘Insight architecture’, and thus have increased RAM and CPU.

Designations:
‘T’ — ‘Base-T’ (standard copper access)
‘P’ — PoE+ (802.3at)
‘W’ — PoE++ (802.3bt)
‘MU’ — MultiGigabit

A high-budget RoE++ combined with multi-speed 100M/1G/2.5G/5G access ports allows connecting Wave 2 or WiFi 6 APs, PoS terminals, modern LED lights, or PTZ IP cameras, IoT devices, or laying the infrastructure for connecting next-generation access devices. The X465 switches also support ‘Fast’ and ‘Perpetual-PoE’, with the total RoE budget of some models reaching up to 3500W.

X465 can be used as a ‘Control Bridge’ for organizing the ‘Extreme Extended Edge’ architecture and connecting port expanders V400/V300. At the same time, the V300 series VPEX can be powered from the X465 via PoE++ (90W or 60W) For example, by connecting and powering 48 VPEX from the X465 switches, and utilizing ‘Insight architecture’ for configuring VM with firewall + NAT, or WiFi controller, it is possible to significantly simplify the network architecture and save on power and other capital infrastructure.
