Version 1.3 of the fwmx software suite has been released, which includes the window manager (fwm), an application launcher menu, and a volume control. The layout indicator uses xxkb.
What's new since the last release (v1.2):
- added a root daemon to monitor battery status and control screen brightness on laptops, along with corresponding elements on the taskbar;
- improved behavior during drag & drop of window buttons on the taskbar;
- experimental support for a tray and widgets (incompatible with anything), already utilized for the volume control and menu;
- a small libfwm library for easier integration of applications with the aforementioned interface;
- the calendar is now interactive;
- minor enhancements in various areas.
Additionally, not only is manual compilation from source or manual downloading of deb packages available, but there is also an apt repository for automatic installation and updates.
The project aims for maximum simplicity while providing necessary functionality.
It supports maintaining a list of windows, assigning them statuses like "always on top", "on top when active", and simply visually highlighting the button on the taskbar with color. Buttons can be moved. Window management (not in the taskbar) is done with the mouse while holding the Super key; titles, etc., are not rendered.
The menu displays a directory tree from a specified location (or multiple locations simultaneously) in the structure of menus and submenus. Regular launch files are simply executable (chmod +x) scripts, binaries, or symbolic links to them. There is also basic support for .desktop file format for compatibility with existing systems.
Opdateret fil with a list of holidays for Russia (for the calendar) – added for the years 2023 and 2024.
The program is distributed as source code (mostly GPLv2) and there are also pre-built packages for Debian-based distributions.
