Debian GNU/Hurd 2023 distribuition is released, combining the Debian environment with the GNU/Hurd kernel. The Debian GNU/Hurd repository includes about 65% of the packages from the total size of the Debian archive, including ported Firefox and Xfce. Installation builds are created (364MB) only for the i386 architecture. For exploring the distribution without installation, ready-made images (4.9GB) are provided for virtual machines.
- The package base of the Debian 12 distribution is utilized.
- A disk driver has been prepared, operating in user space and based on the mechanism proposed by the NetBSD project, called rump (Runnable Userspace Meta Program). The proposed driver allows the system to boot without Linux drivers and a layer that runs Linux drivers through a special emulation layer in the Mach kernel. The Mach kernel manages the CPU, memory, timer, and interrupt controller during such a boot process.
- Improved support for APIC, SMP, and 64-bit systems has enabled the full Debian environment to boot.
- Accumulated fixes have been included.
