Windows 10 disk cleanup utility will no longer delete important files

Disk Cleanup has been part of all Windows versions and is a useful tool integrated into the operating system. It allows you to delete temporary files, obsolete, and cached data without manual cleaning or third-party software. However, in Windows 10, a more modern version called Storage Sense has appeared, which performs this task more flexibly. It complements Disk Cleanup.

Storage Sense was introduced in build 1809, but in the current insider version of the operating system, the utility has undergone some significant changes. The previous version of Storage Sense could delete files from the 'Downloads' folder. In build 19018, users can choose to disable the cleaning of the 'Downloads' folder, which is the default setting.

The change log confirms this. Although at first glance this seems like a minor improvement, it is encouraging that the Redmond company is trying to take user requests into account. One can hope that the corporation will similarly address other requests. For instance, it would be nice to see updates for 'File Explorer'.

It is worth noting that the next update, codenamed 19H2, will start rolling out to consumers on November 12, while patch number 20H1 will be available early next year.
