Udgivelsen af displayserveren Mir 2.8

Release of the Mir 2.8 display server has been presented, the development of which continues under Canonical, despite the abandonment of the Unity shell and the Ubuntu edition for smartphones. Mir remains in demand in Canonical's projects and is now positioned as a solution for embedded devices and the Internet of Things (IoT). Mir can be used as a composite server for Wayland, allowing any applications that use Wayland (for example, those built with GTK3/4, Qt5, or SDL2) to run in Mir-based environments. Installation packages are prepared for Ubuntu 20.04, 21.10, and 22.04 (PPA) and Fedora 33, 34, 35, and 36. The project code is distributed under the GPLv2 license.

I den nye version:

  • Support for the experimental wlr_screencopy_unstable_v1 protocol extension has been added, allowing for the creation of utilities for screenshot generation.
  • During the build process, code generation with Wayland protocol definitions has been ensured.
  • The code and API of the graphical platform have been reworked for future support of heterogeneous and hybrid GPU environments.
  • An option "—x11-window-title" has been added to set the window title on the X11 platform.
  • Mir has been built and tested on RISC-V architecture systems.
  • Build verification has been ensured in the experimental branches of Ubuntu 22.10, Fedora Rawhide, Debian Sid, and Alpine Edge.
