Mir 2.2 display server release has been introduced, the development of which continues by Canonical, despite the abandonment of the Unity shell and the Ubuntu edition for smartphones. Mir remains in demand in Canonical's projects and is now positioned as a solution for embedded devices and the Internet of Things (IoT). Mir can be used as a compositing server for Wayland, allowing any applications using Wayland (for example, those built with GTK3\/4, Qt5, or SDL2) to run in Mir-based environments. Installation packages have been prepared for Ubuntu 20.04\/20.10\/21.04 (PPA) and Fedora 32\/33\/34. The project's code is distributed under the GPLv2 license. <\/p>\n

Work has been done to adapt Mir's APIs related to graphical platform support for use on systems with hybrid graphics. In particular, the mg::Platform API has been split into DisplayPlatform and RenderingPlatform, allowing the use of different GPUs for output and rendering.\n

Mir's performance on the X11 platform has been improved: code for supporting the X11 platform has been transitioned from XLib to XCB, and the ability to resize windows with applications based on Mir displayed in the X11 environment has been added.\n
A significant amount of fixes related to Wayland and Xwayland support have been made. <\/ul>\n
