Distributionen har \u00f8gede sikkerhedskrav og er bygget med SSP (Stack Smashing Protection) for at beskytte mod angreb. OpenRC anvendes som init-system, og en egen pakkeadministrator apk bruges til pakkeh\u00e5ndtering. Alpine anvendes til at oprette officielle Docker-containerbilleder.
