Release of the Mir 2.8 display server has been presented, the development of which continues under Canonical, despite the abandonment of the Unity shell and the Ubuntu edition for smartphones. Mir remains in demand in Canonical's projects and is now positioned as a solution for embedded devices and the Internet of Things (IoT). Mir can be used as a composite server for Wayland, allowing any applications that use Wayland (for example, those built with GTK3\/4, Qt5, or SDL2) to run in Mir-based environments. Installation packages are prepared for Ubuntu 20.04, 21.10, and 22.04 (PPA) and Fedora 33, 34, 35, and 36. The project code is distributed under the GPLv2 license. <\/p>\n
