Release of the Mir 2.10 display server has been announced, the development of which continues by Canonical, despite the abandonment of the Unity shell and Ubuntu edition for smartphones. Mir remains in demand for Canonical projects and is now positioned as a solution for embedded devices and the Internet of Things (IoT). Mir can be used as a compositing server for Wayland, allowing any Wayland-based applications (for example, built with GTK3\/4, Qt5\/6, or SDL2) to run in Mir environments. Installation packages have been prepared for Ubuntu 20.04, 22.04, and 22.10 (PPA) and Fedora 34, 35, 36, and 37. The project code is distributed under the GPLv2 license. <\/p>\n

The new version improves touch screen event handling, adds support for a new gesture for moving windows (dragging while pressing Shift, Alt, or Ctrl keys), enables the ability to move windows from maximized state, implements correct pixel format selection for the X11 platform, and improves scrolling.
