Den f\u00f8rste stabile udgivelse af projektet nghttp3, som udvikler en C-bibliotek med implementering af protokollen HTTP\/3, er tilg\u00e6ngelig. Den version af biblioteket, som udvikles af det samme projekt til protokollen HTTP\/2, bruges som grundlag for modulet mod_http2, der er en del af http-serveren Apache. Projektets resultater anvendes ogs\u00e5 i v\u00e6rkt\u00f8jet Curl. Koden til biblioteket distribueres under MIT-licensen. <\/p>\n
Standarden HTTP\/3 definerer brugen af protokollen QUIC (Quick UDP Internet Connections) som transport for HTTP\/2. QUIC er et lag ovenp\u00e5 UDP-protokollen, der underst\u00f8tter multiplexing af flere forbindelser og sikrer krypteringsmetoder, der svarer til TLS\/SSL. Protokollen blev skabt i 2013 af Google som et alternativ til kombinationen TCP+TLS for web, der l\u00f8ser problemer med lang tidsoprettelse og aftale af forbindelser i TCP samt fjerner forsinkelser ved pakettab under dataoverf\u00f8rsel. <\/p>\n
I nghttp3 findes en uafh\u00e6ngig implementering af specifikationerne RFC 9114 (HTTP\/3 over QUIC-protokollen), RFC 920 (QPACK header komprimeringsteknologi), RFC 9220 (WebSockets over HTTP\/3) og RFC 9218 (udvidelig skema til styring af prioritering af svar p\u00e5 klientanmodninger). Biblioteket er uafh\u00e6ngigt af bestemte QUIC-stakke og underst\u00f8tter drift over forskellige implementeringer af transportprotokollen QUIC. Samtidig udvikles der ogs\u00e5 en egen implementering af QUIC-protokollen \u2014 ngtcp2, som bruges som standard. Til kryptering af data i ngtcp2 underst\u00f8ttes quictls, GnuTLS, BoringSSL, Picotls og wolfSSL.
