Canonical har meddelt, at efter aktivering AMD ROCm<\/strong> i arkiverne Ubuntu 26.04 LTS<\/strong> planl\u00e6gger at levere nyere versioner af ROCm gennem mekanismen Stabil Udgivelsesopdateringer<\/strong>. Det betyder, at AMD's beregningsstak til AI\/ML og HPC vil blive opdateret som en del af de almindelige stabile opdateringer af Ubuntu, uden at man skal vente p\u00e5 den n\u00e6ste distributionsudgivelse. Annonceringen blev offentliggjort den 3. juni 2026 p\u00e5 Ubuntu-bloggen.<\/p>\n

ROCm er AMD's \u00e5bne softwarestak til accelererede beregninger p\u00e5 GPU, APU og CPU, der bruges til maskinl\u00e6ring, lokal inferens og h\u00f8jtydende beregninger. I Ubuntu 26.04 LTS er ROCm allerede tilg\u00e6ngelig fra standard repositories: hele bibliotekss\u00e6ttet installeres med kommandoen sudo apt install rocm, mens udviklers\u00e6ttet installeres med sudo apt install rocm-dev. Efter installationen skal opdateringer og sikkerhedspatches komme gennem den almindelige apt upgrade.<\/p>\n

Den f\u00f8rste version, der kom til Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, blev ROCm 7.1.0<\/strong>. Canonical forklarer dette med, at integrationen af et stort s\u00e6t nye pakker i Ubuntu-arkivet tog tid, og 7.1.0 var relevant p\u00e5 tidspunktet for pakkerne. Samtidig er upstream allerede blevet videre: if\u00f8lge AMD begyndte serien ROCm 7.2<\/strong> at blive udgivet i januar 2026, og versionen 7.2.4<\/strong> blev offentliggjort den 29. maj 2026.<\/p>\n

P\u00e5 kort sigt arbejder Canonical p\u00e5 at pakke ROCm 7.2<\/strong> og udvide det testede hardware-s\u00e6t. Virksomheden understreger, at de ikke \u00f8nsker at springe direkte til brancherne 7.13+<\/strong>, da det f\u00f8rst er n\u00f8dvendigt at finjustere opdateringen af ROCm \"p\u00e5 stedet\" og sikre, at overgangen ikke \u00f8del\u00e6gger allerede installerede applikationer. For AMD GPU users, this is an important change: ROCm in Ubuntu will no longer be a separate manual installation via AMD's script and will become a regular part of the system. Applications will be able to pull the necessary ROCm libraries as dependencies, containers and snap\/deb packages will rely on system packages, and performance and security fixes will be delivered through the standard infrastructure for Ubuntu updates. Canonical announced this back in December 2025. announced a collaboration<\/a> with AMD and a dedicated team of engineers to package and support ROCm in Ubuntu, as well as the intention to pass on the corresponding work to Debian.<\/p>\n
