Implementeringen er baseret p\u00e5 brugen af projektet  <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/zfsonlinux.org\/\">ZFS on Linux<\/a><\/noindex>, der leveres som et modul til Linux-kernen, som fra og med Ubuntu 16.04 indg\u00e5r i standardpakken med kernen. <\/p>\n<p>I Ubuntu 19.10 vil underst\u00f8ttelsen af ZFS blive opdateret til version <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.opennet.ru\/opennews\/art.shtml?num=50730\">0.8.1<\/a><\/noindex>, og i installationsprogrammet for desktopversionen vil en eksperimentel mulighed blive tilf\u00f8jet for at anvende ZFS til alle partitioner, inklusive rodpartitionen. Tilh\u00f8rende \u00e6ndringer vil blive foretaget i GRUB, herunder at der i boot-menuen vil komme en mulighed for at tilbagetrykke \u00e6ndringer med ZFS-snapshots. <\/p>\n<p>For at administrere ZFS er en ny daemon under udvikling  <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/ubuntu\/zsys\">zsys<\/a><\/noindex>, som vil muligg\u00f8re k\u00f8rsel af flere parallelle systemer med ZFS p\u00e5 \u00e9n computer, automatisere oprettelsen af snapshots og administrere adskillelsen af system- og brugerdata, der \u00e6ndres under sessionsforl\u00f8bet. Den prim\u00e6re id\u00e9 er, at forskellige snapshots kan indeholde forskellige tilstande af systemet, og man kan skifte mellem dem. For eksempel, i tilf\u00e6lde af problemer efter installation af opdateringer, kan man vende tilbage til en gammel stabil tilstand ved at v\u00e6lge et tidligere snapshot.
