Timeshift er et backup-system, der bruger rsync med oprettelse af h\u00e5rde links eller Btrfs snapshots for at implementere funktionalitet, der ligner Systemgendannelse i Windows og Time Machine i macOS. Programmet findes i repositories for mange distributioner og anvendes som standard i PCLinuxOS og Linux Mint. S\u00e5rbarheden er rettet i udgaven <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/teejee2008\/timeshift\/releases\/tag\/v20.03\">Timeshift 20.03<\/a><\/noindex>.<\/p>\n<p>Problemet skyldes forkert h\u00e5ndtering af den offentlige mappe \/tmp. Under oprettelsen af en backup opretter programmet mappen \/tmp\/timeshift, hvori der oprettes en undermappe med et tilf\u00e6ldigt navn, der indeholder et shell-script med kommandoer, der k\u00f8res med root-rettigheder. Undermappen med scriptet har et uforudsigeligt navn, men selve \/tmp\/timeshift er forudsigeligt og bliver ikke kontrolleret for udskiftning eller oprettelse af en symbolsk link i stedet for. En angriber kan skabe mappen \/tmp\/timeshift i sit eget navn, hvorefter de kan f\u00f8lge med i oprettelsen af undermappen og erstatte denne undermappe og filen deri.
