Udover brugen af Debian-pakkebasen er en vigtig forskel ved LMDE i forhold til Linux Mint den konstante opdateringscyklus for pakkebasen (en model for kontinuerlige opdateringer: delvis rolling release, semi-rolling release), hvor opdateringer til pakker konstant udgives, og brugeren til enhver tid har mulighed for at opgradere til de nyeste versionsprogrammer. <\/p>\n<p>Distributionen <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.linuxmint.com\/download_lmde.php\">tilg\u00e6ngelig<\/a><\/noindex> i form af installations <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/mirror.yandex.ru\/linuxmint\/debian\/\">iso-billeder<\/a><\/noindex> med Cinnamon-desktopmilj\u00f8et. LMDE indeholder de fleste forbedringer fra den klassiske udgivelse <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.opennet.ru\/opennews\/art.shtml?num=52053Linux\">Mint 19.3<\/a><\/noindex>, herunder originale udviklinger fra projektet (opdateringsmanager, konfigurationsv\u00e6rkt\u00f8jer, menu, interface, system GUI-applikationer). Distributionen er fuldt kompatibel med Debian GNU\/Linux, men ikke kompatibel p\u00e5 pakkeniveau med Ubuntu og klassiske udgivelser af Linux Mint. <\/p>\n<p>LMDE er rettet mod mere teknisk kyndige brugere og giver nyere versioner af pakker. M\u00e5let med LMDE's udvikling er at sikre, at Linux Mint vil kunne forts\u00e6tte med at eksistere i samme form, selvom udviklingen af Ubuntu skulle stoppe.
