Canonical har advaret om, at den fem\u00e5rige opdateringsperiode for distributionsversionen Ubuntu 16.04 LTS snart udl\u00f8ber. Fra den 30. april 2021 vil den officielle offentlige support for distributionsversionen Ubuntu 16.04 blive stoppet. For brugere, der ikke kan opgradere deres systemer til Ubuntu 18.04 eller 20.04 i tide, som med tidligere LTS-udgivelser, anbefales programmet ESM (Extended Security Maintenance), som forl\u00e6ngerer udgivelsen af opdateringer med sikkerhedsrettelser til kernen og de vigtigste systempakker indtil april 2024.
