Die Ver\u00f6ffentlichung der Distribution AlmaLinux 8.4 wurde vorgestellt, die mit der Distribution Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.4 synchronisiert ist. Die Builds sind f\u00fcr die x86_64-Architektur in Form eines Boot-Images (709 MB), eines minimalen Images (1,9 GB) und eines vollst\u00e4ndigen Images (9,8 GB) vorbereitet. In naher Zukunft ist au\u00dferdem die Ver\u00f6ffentlichung von Builds f\u00fcr die ARM-Architektur geplant. <\/p>\n

Die Distribution AlmaLinux wurde von der Firma CloudLinux als Reaktion auf die vorzeitige Einstellung der Unterst\u00fctzung f\u00fcr CentOS 8 durch Red Hat gegr\u00fcndet (die Ver\u00f6ffentlichung von Updates f\u00fcr CentOS 8 wurde beschlossen, Ende 2021 einzustellen, und nicht wie von den Nutzern angenommen, bis 2029). Trotz der Beteiligung von Ressourcen und Entwicklern von CloudLinux wird das Projekt von einer separaten gemeinn\u00fctzigen Organisation, der AlmaLinux OS Foundation, geleitet, die zur Entwicklung auf einer neutralen Plattform mit Beteiligung der Community geschaffen wurde. F\u00fcr die Entwicklung des Projekts sind j\u00e4hrlich eine Million Dollar vorgesehen. Alle Arbeiten an AlmaLinux werden unter freien Lizenzen ver\u00f6ffentlicht. <\/p>\n

Die Distribution entwickelt sich gem\u00e4\u00df den Prinzipien von klassischem CentOS und wird durch die Neubearbeitung der Paketbasis von Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 erstellt, wobei die volle bin\u00e4re Kompatibilit\u00e4t mit RHEL beibehalten wird. Dies erm\u00f6glicht eine nahtlose Ersetzung des klassischen CentOS 8. Updates f\u00fcr den AlmaLinux-Zweig, der auf der Paketbasis von RHEL 8 basiert, werden bis 2029 versprochen. F\u00fcr die Migration bestehender CentOS 8-Installationen auf AlmaLinux reicht es aus, ein spezielles Skript herunterzuladen und auszuf\u00fchren. <\/p>\n
