Enthusiasten ist es gelungen, den Linux-Kernel 5.18 erfolgreich auf Apple iPad Tablets mit ARM-Chips A7 und A8 zu laden. Derzeit beschr\u00e4nkt sich die Arbeit auf die Anpassung von Linux f\u00fcr die Ger\u00e4te iPad Air, iPad Air 2 und einige Modelle von iPad mini. Es gibt jedoch keine grunds\u00e4tzlichen Probleme, diese Entwicklungen auch f\u00fcr andere Ger\u00e4te mit Apple A7 und A8 Chips, wie iPhone 5S und HomePod aus den Jahren 2013-2014, anzuwenden. F\u00fcr neuere Ger\u00e4te k\u00f6nnen Builds aus dem Sandcastle-Projekt verwendet werden. <\/p>\n

Zur Entsperrung des Bootloaders und zum Umgehen der Firmware-\u00dcberpr\u00fcfung (Jailbreak) wird die Checkm8-Schwachstelle genutzt. Das Projekt befindet sich derzeit in einem fr\u00fchen Entwicklungsstadium, in dem der Kernel geladen werden kann, grafische Beschleunigung, Netzwerffunktionen und Audio funktionieren, w\u00e4hrend USB und Bluetooth bisher nicht unterst\u00fctzt werden. Das n\u00e4chste Ziel des Projekts ist die Bereitstellung eines benutzerdefinierten Umfelds, basierend auf der Distribution postmarketOS, die auf der Paketbasis Alpine Linux, der Standard-C-Bibliothek Musl und einer Sammlung von BusyBox-Dienstprogrammen basiert.
