Der Entwickler Jan Kara von SUSE hat einen Patch vorgeschlagen, der den Code f\u00fcr die Unterst\u00fctzung von Xenix, SystemV\/386 und Coherent-Dateisystemen aus dem Linux-Kernel entfernt. Dieser Code wurde seit 2023 als nicht mehr unterst\u00fctzt (orphaned) gekennzeichnet, und seitdem hat sich niemand bereit erkl\u00e4rt, ihn weiterzuverfolgen. Der Maintainer Christian Brauner, der f\u00fcr die Dateisysteme im Kernel verantwortlich ist, stimmte dem Vorschlag zu und nahm den Patch in den Branch vfs-6.15 auf. Vor wenigen Stunden wurde der Inhalt von vfs-6.15 in den Branch linux-next \u00fcbertragen, in dem die \u00c4nderungen f\u00fcr den kommenden Kernel 6.15 vorbereitet werden. <\/p>\n

Die Geschichte begann im Jahr 2002, als der Linux-Kernel von der globalen Sperre (BKL \u2014 Big Kernel Lock) auf granularere Sperren umgestellt wurde. Damals wurde im Dateisystem SystemV auf rwlock umgestellt, was jedoch zu Problemen f\u00fchrte, weshalb der Prozessor w\u00e4hrend des gesamten Funktionsaufrufs, der die Metadaten des Inode las, nicht in den Schlafmodus wechseln konnte. Das Problem wurde erst 2023 w\u00e4hrend eines Stresstests mit dem Tool SyzBot bemerkt. Ein \u00e4hnlicher Vorfall zeigt, dass das Dateisystem SystemV niemand nutzt und es daher entfernt werden kann.
