Ziel des Projekts ist es, das schnellste System zur Sandbox-Isolation von einzelnen Prozessen zu schaffen, das Hardware-Virtualisierung verwendet. Der Code des Projekts ist in den Programmiersprachen C und C++ geschrieben und wird unter der GPLv3-Lizenz verbreitet (f\u00fcr diejenigen, die die Anforderungen der GPLv3 nicht erf\u00fcllen k\u00f6nnen, wird eine kommerzielle Lizenz angeboten).    <\/p>\n<p>TinyKVM ist auf die isolierte Ausf\u00fchrung beliebiger Konsolenprogramme f\u00fcr Linux ausgelegt und erreicht eine Leistung, die nahe der herk\u00f6mmlichen Ausf\u00fchrung liegt. Die Overheadkosten f\u00fcr jeden Systemaufruf betragen etwa 2 Mikrosekunden. Als Anwendungsbeispiel wird die zus\u00e4tzliche Isolation von Prozessen in Caching-Systemen und der Verarbeitung von Webanfragen genannt. TinyKVM wurde als Ersatz f\u00fcr den Libriscv-Emulator entwickelt, der zur Isolation der Verarbeitung jeder Webanfrage in der Varnish-Plattform verwendet wird. Zus\u00e4tzlich wurde eine Variante der libvmod-Bibliothek erstellt, die es erm\u00f6glicht, Module f\u00fcr Varnish mithilfe von TinyKVM auszuf\u00fchren.    <center><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"TinyKVM f\u00fcr die Virtualisierung auf Prozessebene vorgestellt\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/f561d37ddc61ac392508c8301906cae5.jpg\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"TinyKVM f\u00fcr die Virtualisierung auf Prozessebene vorgestellt\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/f55fbfe95625c87659ff985675213362.jpg\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/>  <\/center>    <\/p>\n<p>Beim Starten mit TinyKVM wird der Maschinencode von Programmen ohne emulierende Schichten auf der CPU ausgef\u00fchrt und durch die KVM-Hypervisor-API eingeschr\u00e4nkt, wodurch Overhead vermieden und eine Leistung erreicht wird, die der Ausf\u00fchrung ohne Virtualisierung nahekommt. Die Hauptfunktionen von TinyKVM sind:     <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"l\"> Begrenzung der maximalen Ausf\u00fchrungszeit. Das Programm kann nach Ablauf des Zeitlimits zwangsweise gestoppt werden, ohne dass Signal- und Thread-Handler aufgerufen werden.\n<li class=\"l\"> Begrenzung des Speicherverbrauchs.\n<li class=\"l\"> M\u00f6glichkeit der Abzweigung (Fork) uninitialisierter Instanzen <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/prohoster.info\/de\/vps\/\"   title=\"virtuellen Maschinen\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"2200\">virtuellen Maschinen<\/a> aus einer einzigen initialisierten Instanz eines isolierten Programms. Kopien virtueller Maschinen werden im Copy-on-Write-Modus erstellt, was erheblich Speicher spart, da nur eine Instanz gemeinsamer Daten gespeichert wird.\n<li class=\"l\"> Abzweigprozesse k\u00f6nnen in ihren vorherigen Zustand zur\u00fcckgesetzt werden (zum Beispiel kann ein abgezweigte HTTP-Handler ohne Neustart nach der Verarbeitung jeder Anfrage in den Ursprungszustand zur\u00fcckkehren). Eine Instanz eines isolierten Prozesses kann ebenfalls auf den Zustand einer anderen virtuellen Maschine zur\u00fcckgesetzt werden, nicht jedoch auf die, von der sie abgezweigt wurde. In diesem Fall sind die Kosten jedoch h\u00f6her, da eine \u00c4nderung der Seitentabelle erforderlich ist.\n<li class=\"l\"> Die M\u00f6glichkeit, statische Seiten im Speicher w\u00e4hrend der Initialisierung zu erstellen, ist auch f\u00fcr komplexe Laufzeiten geeignet, wie beispielsweise in der Programmiersprache Go. In diesem Fall sind \u00c4nderungen nur f\u00fcr Seiten im Copy-on-Write-Modus zul\u00e4ssig.\n<li class=\"l\"> Unterst\u00fctzung f\u00fcr die Remote-Debugging mit GDB. Es ist eine Live-Debugging m\u00f6glich, bei dem die Ausf\u00fchrung wieder aufgenommen werden kann.    <\/ul>\n<p> Die TinyKVM-Gastumgebung bildet einen abgespeckten Kernel, der vor \u00c4nderungen gesch\u00fctzt ist, erstellt mit Seitenmemory-Schutz und nutzt SMAP (Supervisor Mode Access Prevention) sowie SMEP (Supervisor Mode Execution Prevention) f\u00fcr zus\u00e4tzliche Isolation zwischen Kernel und Benutzerspeicher. TinyKVM verwendet gro\u00dfe Seiten (Hugepages) zur Leistungssteigerung. Durch Programme aufgerufene Systemaufrufe werden vom Emulator abgefangen und ins Host-Umfeld umgeleitet (die Verz\u00f6gerung f\u00fcr die Verarbeitung und \u00dcbersetzung des emulierten Aufrufs betr\u00e4gt etwa 2 Mikrosekunden).
