Der Schwachstelle wurde ein kritisches Risiko (9.1 von 10) zugewiesen. Sie tritt bis zur aktuellen Version ConnMan 1.44 auf und ist bislang nicht behoben.    <\/p>\n<p>Die Schwachstelle besteht in der Implementierung des DNS-Proxys und wird durch die Tatsache verursacht, dass bei der Verarbeitung einer DNS-Antwort mit dem Bit TC (Truncated) der \"lookup\"-String in der Funktion ns_resolv leer oder NULL bleibt. Dies f\u00fchrt anschlie\u00dfend zu einem Buffer\u00fcberlauf aufgrund einer fehlerhaften Berechnung der Gr\u00f6\u00dfe der Daten, die mit der Funktion memcpy kopiert werden.         <\/p>\n<p>Zus\u00e4tzlich kann eine Schwachstelle (CVE-2025-31498) in der Bibliothek c-ares, die zur asynchronen Durchf\u00fchrung von DNS-Abfragen verwendet wird, festgestellt werden. Die Schwachstelle wird durch den Zugriff auf bereits freigegebenen Speicher (use-after-free) in der Funktion zur Verarbeitung von Antworten des DNS-Servers verursacht.     <\/p>\n<p>Das Problem tritt auf, wenn bei einem Verbindungsabbruch eine Situation entstehen kann, in der der Verbindungsdescriptor bereits freigegeben wurde, die Funktion read_answers() jedoch annimmt, dass er noch verf\u00fcgbar ist, w\u00e4hrend andere Anfragen aus der Warteschlange ausgeschlossen werden. Die Ausnutzung der Schwachstelle gestaltet sich schwierig, da der Angreifer den DNS-Server kontrollieren muss, \u00fcber den die Aufl\u00f6sung erfolgt, und Bedingungen schaffen muss, die die Aufrufe von send()\/write() fehlerhaft abschlie\u00dfen, was theoretisch m\u00f6glich ist, wenn das Opfer mit ICMP UNREACHABLE-Paketen \u00fcberflutet wird.      <\/p>\n<p>Die Schwachstelle kann zur Ausnutzung von Projekten verwendet werden, die die Bibliothek c-ares in Anspruch nehmen. Beispielsweise wird c-ares in Node.js, sssd, apt-cacher-ng, wireshark, pgbouncer, shadowsocks, zephyr, sysdig und frr verwendet. Das Problem tritt ab der Version 1.32.3 (Juli 2024) auf und wurde mit dem Update c-ares 1.34.5 behoben.
