Diese Protokolle werden \u00fcblicherweise von Anbietern f\u00fcr die Einrichtung von Verbindungen \u00fcber Ethernet oder DSL verwendet und kommen auch in einigen VPNs (z. B. pptpd und <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/adrienverge\/openfortivpn\">openfortivpn<\/a><\/noindex>). Um die Anf\u00e4lligkeit ihrer Systeme zu \u00fcberpr\u00fcfen, <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/marcinguy\/CVE-2020-8597\">vorbereitet<\/a><\/noindex>  Exploit-Prototyp.<\/p>\n<p>Die Sicherheitsanf\u00e4lligkeit wird durch einen Buffer Overflow in der Implementierung des EAP-Autorisierungsprotokolls (Extensible Authentication Protocol) verursacht. Ein Angriff kann in der Phase vor der Authentifizierung durch das Senden eines Pakets mit dem Typ EAPT_MD5CHAP erfolgen, das einen sehr langen Hostnamen enth\u00e4lt, der nicht in den zugewiesenen Buffer passt. Aufgrund eines Fehlers bei der \u00dcberpr\u00fcfung der Gr\u00f6\u00dfe des Felds rhostname kann der Angreifer Daten au\u00dferhalb des Buffers im Stack \u00fcberschreiben und die Ausf\u00fchrung seines Codes mit root-Rechten erlangen. Die Anf\u00e4lligkeit tritt sowohl auf der Server- als auch auf der Client-Seite auf, das hei\u00dft, nicht nur der Server, sondern auch der Client, der versucht, sich mit dem vom Angreifer kontrollierten Server zu verbinden, kann angegriffen werden (z. B. kann der Angreifer zun\u00e4chst den Server \u00fcber die Sicherheitsanf\u00e4lligkeit hacken und dann versuchen, die sich verbindenden Clients zu kompromittieren).<\/p>\n<p>Das Problem betrifft die Versionen <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/paulusmack\/ppp\/\">pppd<\/a><\/noindex> , die von 2.4.2 bis einschlie\u00dflich 2.4.8 und wurde in Form von <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/paulusmack\/ppp\/commit\/8d7970b8f3db727fe798b65f3377fe6787575426\">Patches<\/a><\/noindex>behoben. In RHEL, OpenWRT und SUSE ist das pppd-Paket mit aktivierter \u201eStack Smashing Protection\u201c (Modus \u201e-fstack-protector\u201c in gcc) kompiliert, was die Ausnutzung von Abst\u00fcrzen einschr\u00e4nkt. Neben den Distributionen wurde die Schwachstelle auch in einigen Produkten best\u00e4tigt. <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\"
