Samuel Karp, Ingenieur bei Amazon, der an der Entwicklung des Linux-Distributions Bottlerocket und Technologien zur Containerisolierung f\u00fcr AWS arbeitet, entwickelt auf der Basis von Jail-Umgebungen in FreeBSD ein neues Runtime namens runj, um eine isolierte Ausf\u00fchrung von Containern zu gew\u00e4hrleisten, die gem\u00e4\u00df der OCI-Spezifikation (Open Container Initiative) gestaltet sind. Das Projekt wird als experimentell positioniert und wird in der Freizeit au\u00dferhalb der Hauptarbeit entwickelt und befindet sich derzeit in der Prototypenphase. Der Code ist in Go geschrieben und wird unter der BSD-Lizenz verbreitet. <\/p>\n

Sobald die Entwicklung das erforderliche Niveau erreicht hat, k\u00f6nnte das Projekt potenziell auf ein Niveau wachsen, das die Nutzung von runj als Ersatz f\u00fcr das Standard-Runtime in Docker- und Kubernetes-Systemen erm\u00f6glicht, wobei FreeBSD anstelle von Linux zur Ausf\u00fchrung der Container verwendet wird. Derzeit sind in der OCI-Runtime Befehle zur Erstellung, L\u00f6schung, Ausf\u00fchrung, erzwungenen Beendigung und Statusbewertung von Containern implementiert. Der Inhalt des Containers wird auf Basis einer Standard- oder abgespeckten FreeBSD-Umgebung erstellt. <\/p>\n

Da die OCI-Spezifikation derzeit keine Unterst\u00fctzung f\u00fcr FreeBSD bietet, wurde im Rahmen des Projekts eine Reihe zus\u00e4tzlicher Parameter entwickelt, die mit der Konfiguration von Jail und FreeBSD zusammenh\u00e4ngen und die zur Aufnahme in die Hauptspezifikation der OCI vorgesehen sind. F\u00fcr die Verwaltung von Jail werden die Utilities jail, jls, jexec, kill und ps aus FreeBSD verwendet, ohne direkt auf Systemaufrufe zuzugreifen. F\u00fcr die Zukunft ist geplant, Unterst\u00fctzung f\u00fcr die Verwaltung von Ressourceneinschr\u00e4nkungen \u00fcber die RCTL-Schnittstelle des Kernels hinzuzuf\u00fcgen. <\/p>\n

Neben der eigenen Runtime wird im Repository des Projekts auch eine experimentelle Schicht entwickelt, die zusammen mit der Runtime containerd (verwendet in Docker) genutzt wird, die modifiziert wurde, um FreeBSD zu unterst\u00fctzen. Um das rootfs von FreeBSD in ein OCI-kompatibles Container-Image umzuwandeln, wird ein spezielles Utility angeboten. Das erstellte Image kann sp\u00e4ter in containerd importiert werden.
