The release of the desktop-oriented GhostBSD 21.04.27 distribution is now available, built on FreeBSD and offering a MATE desktop environment. By default, GhostBSD uses the OpenRC initialization system and the ZFS file system. It supports both Live mode operation and installation on a hard drive (using a custom installer ginstall, written in Python). Boot images are available for the x86_64 architecture (2.5 GB).
In the new version:
- The transition to FreeBSD 13.0-STABLE and OpenZFS 2.0 has been completed.
- Full functionality of OpenRC services devmatch and devd has been ensured.
- Devd is employed for managing network device settings. Unique device boot support has been added to network services.
- Touchscreen support has been added.
- New ZFS services have been added. The installer now supports OpenZFS 2.0.
- A new icon theme has been introduced.
- The performance of OpenRC services has been improved.
