In the evolving Proton project with its revamped user interface, set to be introduced in Firefox 89 on June 1, another significant change has been implemented that disrupts the conventional way users interact with the browser. As part of the redesign, the embedded '…' (Page Actions) menu in the address bar has been removed, which previously allowed users to add bookmarks, send links to Pocket, pin tabs, work with the clipboard, and initiate email sharing.
This change is already included in the beta release of Firefox 89 and nightly builds. The options previously available in the Page Actions menu have been relocated to other parts of the interface, remain accessible in the panel settings section, and can be individually placed on the toolbar as buttons. The menu was introduced in Firefox 57 and featured rarely used elements or duplicated options from other parts of the interface. The removal of the screenshot feature in the last release diminished the menu's relevance (for instance, more common elements are available for bookmarks, clipboard management, and tab pinning, while the options for sending to Pocket and email are not widely used).
Among other interface changes expected in Firefox 89, the default hiding of the setting for activating the compact mode of panel display stands out (initially, Mozilla intended to eliminate this mode, but users managed to advocate for it), new icons, a new design for tabs and tooltips, a streamlined main menu, redesigned modal dialogs, and a popup panel for configuring the new tab page.
