A new release of the Wayward 0.8.3 user shell is now available, based on the composite server Weston and the Wayland protocol. The shell is notable for its low memory consumption (50-70 MB RAM), high performance, and reliance on just four dependencies (weston/wayland, ttf-droid/adwaita-icon-theme, gtk3, and sudo).
It features a bottom panel that supports auto-hide and includes an application menu, shortcuts for quick access to applications, task icons, a clock, widgets such as volume control, and buttons for restart, shutdown, and preventing the monitor from sleeping while watching videos. The new release adds initial support for multi-monitor configurations and implements a battery status indicator.
