Red Hat has released the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.4 distribution. The installation builds are prepared for the x86_64, s390x (IBM System z), ppc64le, and Aarch64 architectures, but are only available for download by registered users of the Red Hat Customer Portal. The source code of the rpm packages for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 is distributed through the CentOS Git repository.
The 8.x branch will be supported at least until 2029 and is being developed according to a new predictable development cycle, which implies the formation of releases every six months at a predetermined time. The new RHEL product development cycle encompasses several levels, including Fedora as a platform for implementing new capabilities, CentOS Stream for access to packages prepared for the next interim RHEL release (rolling variant of RHEL), a minimalist universal base image (UBI, Universal Base Image) for running applications in isolated containers, and the RHEL Developer Subscription for free use of RHEL during the development process.
