The release of the SeaMonkey 2.53.8 suite of Internet applications has taken place, which combines a web browser, email client, news feed aggregator (RSS/Atom), and a WYSIWYG HTML page editor called Composer into a single product. Pre-installed add-ons include the IRC client Chatzilla, the web developer tools DOM Inspector, and the calendar planner Lightning. This new version includes fixes and changes from the current codebase of Firefox (SeaMonkey 2.53 is based on the Firefox 60.8 browser engine, incorporating security-related fixes and some enhancements from the latest Firefox branches).
Among the changes:
- Significant performance optimizations have been made.
- Icons have been updated, converted from GIF to PNG format. The processing of icons has been accelerated and their quality improved.
- A "from=" option has been added to call the email writing interface from the command line.
- Improved handling of email subjects in the mail client.
- All message windows are updated after changing settings.
- Improved marking of multiple messages as read.
- The display of version numbers in the update manager has been reinstated.
- The list of IRC networks in Chatzilla has been updated, including the addition of the libera.chat network, which has replaced FreeNode.
- The default network port number for accessing IRC using TLS has been changed to 6697.
- Separate language packs for Chatzilla and Lightning have been removed, with localization moved to the main language pack.
