The release of the Live distribution Finnix 123, based on the Debian package base, is now available. This distribution only supports console operation but includes a good selection of utilities for administrator needs, comprising 575 packages with various tools. The size of the ISO image is 412 MB.
In the new version:
- Options have been added for passing parameters on boot in the kernel command line: ‘sshd’ to enable the SSH server and ‘passwd’ to set a login password.
- The system identifier is ensured to remain unchanged between reboots, which allows for maintaining the binding to IP address, assigned via DHCP, after a restart. The identifier is generated based on DMI.
- A hint has been added to the finnix command with instructions on enabling ZFS.
- An error handler has been added that is triggered when an entered command is not found, offering known alternatives. For example, entering ftp will suggest launching or installing lftp.
- Man pages have been added for commands specific to Finnix, such as wifi-connect and locale-config.
- A new package jove has been added. The packages ftp, ftp-ssl, and zile have been removed.
- The package base has been updated to Debian 11.
