The release of the specialized distribution Tails 4.22 (The Amnesic Incognito Live System), based on the Debian package base and designed to ensure anonymous network access, has been published. Anonymous access in Tails is provided by the Tor system. By default, all connections except for traffic through the Tor network are blocked by a packet filter. For storing user data in persistent mode between sessions, encryption is used. An ISO image capable of running in Live mode, sized 1.1 GB, has been prepared for download.
The new version includes changes to the Tor Connection master, which allows connecting from censored networks via bridge gateways to bypass restrictions. The new version introduces the ability to save the selected bridge gateway in persistent storage as well as manual adjustment of time in case of connection failure to Tor via bridge gateways using obfs4. A button for retrying the connection to Tor has been added to the error pages.
Tails 4.22 also offers new versions of Tor Browser 10.5.6, Thunderbird 78.13, and firmware for AMD GPUs (20210818). The automatic restart of Tor after exiting the Unsafe Browser, used to access resources on the local network, has been discontinued. A check for downloading automatically installed updates from the working mirror has been added. A version of the documentation in Russian is included.
