The release of the Lakka 3.5 distribution has been announced, which allows computers, set-top boxes, or single-board computers to be converted into a full-fledged gaming console for running retro games. This project is a modification of the LibreELEC distribution, originally designed for creating home theaters. Lakka builds are available for i386, x86_64 (Intel, NVIDIA, or AMD GPU), Raspberry Pi 1-4, Orange Pi, Cubieboard, Cubieboard2, Cubietruck, Banana Pi, Hummingboard, Cubox-i, Odroid C1/C1+/XU3/XU4, etc. To install, simply write the distribution onto an SD card or USB drive, connect a gamepad, and boot the system.
At the core of Lakka is the RetroArch gaming console emulator, which provides emulation for a wide range of devices and supports advanced features such as multiplayer gaming, save states, enhancing the visual quality of old games using shaders, rewinding gameplay, hotplugging gamepads, and video streaming. Emulated consoles include Atari 2600/7800/Jaguar/Lynx, Game Boy, Mega Drive, NES, Nintendo 64/DS, PCEngine, PSP, Sega 32X/CD, SuperNES, and others. Gamepads from existing gaming consoles, including PlayStation 3, Dualshock 3, 8bitdo, Nintendo Switch, Xbox 1, and Xbox360 are supported.
In the new release:
- The RetroArch package has been updated to version 1.9.10, which allows for the removal of previously paired Bluetooth devices by pressing START / Space for the selected device in the list.
- The versions of emulators and game engines have been updated. The N64 emulator now includes support for dynamic recompilation of RDP/RSP.
- The Mesa package has been updated to version 21.2.3. For Intel GPUs, the i965 driver has been replaced with crocus, based on the Gallium3D architecture.
- Support has been added for new devices: PiBoyDMG, Capcom Home Arcade, RetroDreamer, and Anbernic RG351MP.
- A xpadneo driver has been added to support wireless Xbox gamepads.
- Built-in support VPN WireGuard.
- Firmware and kernel have been updated.
