The release of ncspot 0.9 has taken place, a lightweight console client for the music service Spotify, developed in the Rust programming language and supported by more than fifty developers. The interface supports themes and is built using the ncurses library. By default, PulseAudio is used as the sound server (to use an alternative sound backend, compilation flags must be specified). The source code is distributed under the BSD license. Builds are supported for Linux, Windows, and macOS.
According to the developer, this client stands out from official and alternative clients due to its wider coverage of operating systems (specifically, *BSD systems are supported), significantly lower resource consumption (RAM usage is more than 20 times lower, at 46.2 MiB instead of 1000.0 MiB), and enhanced stability achieved through the use of the Rust language.
The new version features only cosmetic improvements and a number of new capabilities available through the interface. In particular, a command has been added to show recommendations, a 'Share album' button has appeared in the menu, and it is now possible to bind multiple commands to a single hotkey.
