After three and a half years since the release of the last significant version, X.Org Server 21.1.0 has been released. The version numbering system has been changed: the first digit now indicates the year, the second indicates the major release number within the year, and the third indicates a patch update.
Among the significant changes are the following:
Support for 2D acceleration with Glamor has been added to xvfb.
Full support for the Meson build system has been added. The next major version will remove support for building with autotools.
Support for XInput 2.4 has been introduced, enabling the use of gesture controls on touchpads.
XWayland is now released as a separate package with its own development cycle.
A number of minor changes and bug fixes have also been made.
