The release of Manjaro Linux 21.2 has taken place, built on Arch Linux and aimed at beginner users. The distribution is notable for its simplified and user-friendly installation process, support for automatic hardware detection, and installation of necessary drivers. Manjaro is available in live editions with graphical environments KDE (2.7 GB), GNOME (2.6 GB), and Xfce (2.4 GB). Community-supported editions with Budgie, Cinnamon, Deepin, LXDE, LXQt, MATE, and i3 are also developed.
Manjaro uses its own toolset, BoxIt, designed in the image of Git, for managing repositories. The repository operates on a rolling release principle, but new versions undergo an additional stabilization phase. In addition to its own repository, support for the Arch User Repository (AUR) is available. The distribution is equipped with a graphical installer and a graphical interface for system configuration.
Key innovations:
- The Calamares installer provides the option to choose the filesystem when automatically partitioning and has improved support for Btrfs. This includes the ability to place swap files in the Btrfs filesystem, and subvolume settings have been enhanced for easier rollback of changes and reduced space consumption by snapshots.
- The GNOME-based edition has been updated to GNOME 41.2, and the layout of elements on the screen has been aligned with the default GNOME settings. Active elements in dialog windows are highlighted when the window gains focus, the size of scrollbars has been increased, and the styling of switches has been modified. KDE's functionality using the Wayland protocol has been improved.
- The main edition continues to be supplied with the Xfce 4.16 desktop environment.
- The Linux kernel has been updated to version 5.15.
