The second edition of the "Linux for Yourself" guide (LX4, LX4U) has been published, offering instructions on creating an independent Linux system using only the source texts of the required software. The project is an independent branch from the LFS (Linux From Scratch) guide but does not use its source texts. It offers users a choice of multilib, EFI support, and a set of additional software for more convenient system setup. The project's developments are hosted on GitHub under the MIT license.
Key Changes:
- The transition to the mkdocs static content generation platform has been completed (previously, docsify.js was used). As a result of the switch, it is now possible to generate a PDF version of the guide. Additionally, the web version of the guide works correctly in text-based browsers like links and w3m;
- As an option, the classic file system hierarchy is offered, where the directories “/bin”, “/sbin”, and “/lib” are not symbolic links to “/usr/{bin,sbin,lib}”;
- Multiple edits and corrections have been made throughout the guide;
- Thanks to community feedback, clarifications and explanations have been added in many sections.
