The release of the dual-pane file manager GNOME Commander 1.14.0 has taken place, optimized for use in the GNOME desktop environment. GNOME Commander offers features such as tabs, command line access, bookmarks, customizable color schemes, a bypass mode for directories when selecting files, access to external data via FTP and SAMBA, extendable context menus, automatic mounting of external drives, access to navigation history, plugin support, a built-in viewer for text and images, search functions, renaming by mask, and directory comparison.
In the new version:
- The migration from GnomeVFS to the GIO framework has been completed, providing a unified VFS API for abstracting access to local and remote file systems.
- Selectable default action handlers have been implemented, applied when moving files with the mouse in drag & drop mode.
- An optional feature has been added to move files to the trash instead of permanently deleting them.
- The built-in search dialog has been removed, replaced with the ability to invoke external file search commands.
- The current directory indicator now displays the name of the external server, on which this directory is located.
- A menu item has been added to select and deselect only files without affecting directories.
