Mozilla has announced the launch of a new paid service, MDN Plus, which will complement other commercial initiatives like Mozilla VPN and Firefox Relay Premium. MDN Plus is an enhanced version of the MDN (Mozilla Developer Network) website, which hosts a collection of documentation for web developers covering technologies supported in modern browsers, including JavaScript, CSS, HTML, and various Web APIs.
The main MDN archive will remain free as before. Notable features of MDN Plus include personalized interaction with materials and tools for accessing documentation in offline mode. Personalization options include adapting the site's design to individual preferences, creating collections with personal article selections, and the ability to subscribe to notifications about API changes, CSS updates, and articles of interest. A PWA (Progressive Web Application) is offered for offline access, allowing users to store the documentation archive on local storage and periodically sync its status.
The subscription costs $5 per month or $50 per year for the basic package, and $10/$100 for the package that includes direct feedback support from the MDN team and early access to new platform features. MDN Plus is currently available only to users in the USA and Canada. There are plans to expand the service to the UK, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and Singapore in the future.
