The release of the specialized distribution Tails 4.29 (The Amnesic Incognito Live System), based on the Debian package base and designed for anonymous internet access, has been announced. Anonymous access in Tails is facilitated by the Tor network. By default, all connections, except traffic through the Tor network, are blocked by a packet filter. User data is stored in a mode that maintains data between launches, utilizing encryption. An iso image is available for download, capable of running in Live mode, with a size of 1.1 GB.
In this new release, the Tor Browser is loaded from its own archive. Versions of the Tor Browser 11.0.10, based on Firefox 91.8, and the email client Thunderbird 91.7.0 have been updated. The Linux kernel has been upgraded to version 5.10.103. The obfs4 transport implementation, used for bypassing censorship, has been updated to version 0.0.12.
At the same time, the beta testing of the new branch Tails 5.0 has been announced, which has been transitioned to the Debian 11 (Bullseye) package base and comes with a GNOME 3.38 session that defaults to using the Wayland protocol. Among the updated applications are: Audacity 2.4.2, GIMP 2.20.22, Inkscape 1.0.2, LibreOffice 7.0.4, OnionCircuits 0.7, Pidgin 2.14.1.
