After nearly two years of development, the release of the Turnkey Linux 17 suite has been prepared, which includes a collection of 119 minimalist Debian builds suitable for use in virtualization and cloud environments. Currently, only two ready builds based on version 17 have been created: core (339 MB) with basic environment and tkldev (419 MB) with tools for developing and building mini-distributions. The other builds are expected to be updated soon.
The idea of the distribution is to provide users with fully functional working environments immediately after installation, featuring LAMP (Linux, Apache, MariaDB, PHP/Python/Perl), Ruby on Rails, Joomla, MediaWiki, WordPress, Drupal, Apache Tomcat, LAPP, Django, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Node.js, Jenkins, Typo3, Plone, SugarCRM, punBB, OS Commerce, ownCloud, MongoDB, OpenLDAP, GitLab, CouchDB, and more.
Software management is carried out through a specially prepared web interface (using Webmin, shellinabox, and confconsole for configuration). The builds come with an automatic backup system, tools for automatic updates, and a monitoring system. Installation is supported both on hardware and in virtual machines. Basic setup, password definitions, and cryptographic key generation are performed during the first boot.
In the new release, the transition to Debian 11 package base has been made (previously Debian 10 was used). Webmin has been updated to version 1.990. Significant improvements have been made support for IPv6, for instance, new features for configuring the firewall and stunnel for IPv6 have been added in Webmin, along with IPv6 support in backup tools. Work has been done to port the distribution scripts from Python 2 to Python 3. Experimental builds for Raspberry Pi 4 boards have begun to be formed.
