Oracle has released a patch update for the VirtualBox virtualization system 6.1.34, which includes 27 fixes. The new version also addresses 5 vulnerabilities, rated with severity levels from 7.8 to 3.8. Details about the vulnerabilities are not yet disclosed, but it is known that the most dangerous issue occurs only on Windows systems.
Key Changes:
- The additions for Linux hosts and guest systems now support Linux kernel 5.17 and resolve issues on systems with kernel 5.14.
- The additions for Linux guest systems have added initial support for kernels from the RHEL 8.6 distribution and resolved issues with screen resizing for environments with older versions of libXrandr (up to 1.4).
- Issues with the emulation of the 'cmpxchg16b' instruction have been resolved in VMM.
- The graphical interface performance has improved in environments running macOS, starting from the Big Sur release, when kernel extensions are not loaded.
- A hang in the EHCI emulator, occurring during the processing of small packets, has been fixed.
- A hang in the storage device emulation code, occurring when the host-side cache is disabled, has been resolved. NVMe state loading has been improved.
- The virtio-scsi and E1000 driver codes have been enhanced.
- The VBoxManage utility has improved output for the 'natnetwork list' command, added options for setting an IPv6 prefix (—ipv6-prefix) and a default route for IPv6 (—ipv6-default).
- General improvements in IPv4 and IPv6 support have been made in the networking subsystem.
- The OVF image import tool now allows specifying a different storage controller and port for hard disks during virtual machine import.
- The automated installation mode has been improved.
- HTML data processing in the clipboard on Windows hosts has been improved.
- The driver installation has been improved in the additions for Windows guest systems.
- In the additions for Solaris guest systems, an issue leading to the removal of VirtualBox additions 6.1.30 and 6.1.32 from Solaris 10 guest systems has been resolved.
- Issues with loading ISO images from FreeBSD in the EFI code have been fixed.
