Alexandre Julliard, the creator and lead of the Wine project, announced the launch of an experimental collaborative development server at gitlab.winehq.org, based on the GitLab platform. Currently, the server hosts all projects from the main Wine repository, as well as utilities and content for the WineHQ website. The new service allows for submitting merge requests.
Additionally, a gateway has been launched that broadcasts comments from GitLab and sent merge requests to the wine-devel mailing list, meaning all development activity for Wine continues to be reflected in the mailing list. A separate project, wine-demo, has been created for exploring development on GitLab and testing merge requests or handler scripts without affecting the actual code or cluttering the wine-devel mailing list.
It is noteworthy that the use of GitLab for Wine development is still experimental and no final decision has been made regarding the migration to GitLab. If developers find GitLab unsuitable, attempts will be made to use some other platform. A description of the workflow proposed for using GitLab as the primary development platform for Wine has also been published (patches are submitted as merge requests, tested in a continuous integration system, and forwarded to the wine-devel mailing list for discussion; reviewers are automatically or manually assigned to verify and approve changes).
