The release of the SeaMonkey 2.53.12 internet application suite took place, which combines a web browser, email client, news feed aggregation system (RSS/Atom), and WYSIWYG HTML page editor Composer into one product. Pre-installed add-ons include the IRC client Chatzilla, a set of web development tools DOM Inspector, and the calendar/planner Lightning. This new version incorporates fixes and changes from the current Firefox codebase (SeaMonkey 2.53 is based on the Firefox 60.8 browser engine with ported security-related fixes and some enhancements from the latest Firefox branches).
Among the changes:
- The email client implements 'Edit Template' commands and 'New Message From Template' to create a new message based on a template. For messages in the Templates folder, a button is provided to transition to template editing.
- An 'Edit Draft' command has been implemented, which is only displayed when opening the drafts folder.
- The dialog for managing subscriptions to news feeds (RSS/Atom) has been redesigned and simplified.
- The about:support page has been updated to include information about system memory, disk size, and page size limitations in placeDB.
- The state of the formatting control panel in the message composition window (Composer) has been successfully preserved. Previously, switching between views (edit, HTML, preview) would reset the panel hidden via the View→Show/Hide→Format Toolbar menu.
- The code for outdated plugins has been cleaned up.
- Permissions settings related to enabling the use of Flash Player have been removed.
A new version of the Tor Browser 11.0.11, focused on anonymity, security, and privacy, has been released. This release is synchronized with the Firefox 91.9.0 ESR codebase, which has fixed 11 vulnerabilities. The NoScript extension has been updated to version 11.4.5. The 'What’s New' link in the About dialog has been hidden. The built-in obfs4 bridge smallerrichard has been removed.
Additionally, it is noteworthy that the email client Thunderbird 91.9.0 includes a corrective release, remarkable for restoring support for the SHA-1 algorithm for OpenPGP digital signatures. In Thunderbird version 91.8.0, the RNP library used in the OpenPGP implementation was updated to version 0.16.0, where support for MD5 and SHA-1 algorithms was disabled. Since OpenPGP keys based on SHA-1 are still in use, and carrying out actual attacks on OpenPGP digital signatures is problematic, it was decided to reinstate the possibility of using SHA-1 in Thunderbird. To enhance security, RNP 0.16.0 includes code for detecting collisions in SHA-1. Other changes in Thunderbird 91.9.0 include the addition of a warning displayed when ignoring unsafe attributes specified in the OpenPGP key, such as fields based on the MD5 algorithm.
