The May update of the Dasharo project, which develops an open firmware set based on CoreBoot, BIOS, and UEFI, features an implementation of open firmware for the MSI PRO Z690-A WIFI DDR4 motherboard, supporting the LGA 1700 socket and the current 12th generation (Alder Lake) Intel Core, Pentium Gold, and Celeron processors. In addition to the MSI PRO Z690-A, the project also offers open firmware for Dell OptiPlex 7010/9010, Asus KGPE-D16, Talos II, Clevo NV41, Tuxedo IBS15, NovaCustom NS5X, and Protectli VP4620 motherboards.
The proposed CoreBoot port for the MSI PRO Z690-A motherboard supports PCIe, USB, NVMe, Ethernet, HDMI, DisplayPort, audio, integrated WiFi, Bluetooth, and TPM. Compatibility with UEFI and SMBIOS is ensured. It provides the ability to boot in UEFI Secure Boot mode, network booting, and shell access to manage UEFI firmware. In the boot interface, users can assign custom activation keys for the boot menu, change the boot order, configure options, etc. Known issues include disappearing USB storage devices after a reboot, malfunctioning PCIe ports, and issues with fTPM. Testing was conducted on a workstation with an Intel Core i5-12600K 3.7, Intel 670p 512 GB NVMe SSD, and Kingston KF436C17BBK4/32 RAM.
